It is time for some grammar. It doesn't grow on trees. That's why we need to have a look into grammaticalisation, the process by which grammatical forms develop. We're going to be discussing the grammatical structures of the language at its 'mid stage', which is before any of the consonant changes applied, but after the pitch accent developed.
Firstly, we should consider the general syntactic structure of the language at this time, and how this informs the development of its grammatical structures. The language began as head-final, SOV, and had possessive prefixes.
